Music for the Imagination

Alongside exploring existing trio repertoire, the Trio has been championing new music, and in June 2009 commissioned a new work by the Manchester composer Lenny Sayers. The resulting composition, Music for the Imagination, explores the way in which music can paint vivid pictures in the imagination in a challenging yet accessible way. This visual concept inspired the Trio to explore collaborations within other art specialisms, to reach beyond music into visual art forms, and to bring live performance to as wide and diverse an audience as possible. To this end, they were pleased to begin working with Richard Dawson (Arbarus), a Manchester-based visual artist who specialises in moving image, installation and sculptural media. The collaboration led to the creation of a video installation which accompanies the live performance of Music for the Imagination.
