Cultural Olympiad

As part of the countdown to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, a four year Cultural Olympiad is being organised around the United Kingdom, with a focus on inspiring young people and promoting international understanding and cultural diversity.

In the East Midlands region a particular programme of summer festivals and events is being developed, entitled Igniting  Ambition, each year bigger in scope and impact, culminating in the organising of a World Exhibition for Young Artists, based on the European Biennale model of BJCEM and its partners. Each festival programme includes a commitment to commission a number of new works by UK artists and to include spectacular outdoor performances for large audiences.
