Michael Pinchbeck
Michael Pinchbeck is a writer, live artist and performance maker. For the Biennale he will recreate his own christening using an 8mm amateur film of the event.
The film shows The Arrival, The Departure and The Celebrations surrounding the christening. Family members are seen taking photographs of the baby on a bench.
For the one-to-one performance, Michael sits on a similar bench bearing a plaque engraved with the dedication Sit with me for a moment and remember.
Using the audience to stand in for members of his family and a bowl of water as the font, Michael tries to remember what it was like.
'The performance is an act of repair, an invitation to remember the event and to help me fill in the gaps left behind,' explains Michael.
'It operates in the space between words, between frames in a film, where ideas sit somewhere between the conceived and being born.'
