Anna Mawby

Anna Mawby is a visual artist who used a single needle to re-create the phrase 'I was waiting' for her Biennale piece.

Entitled Interminable it has 250,000 individual perforations pierced onto a two-metre sheet of paper.

'Interminable evokes the fact that we do not think about the moment. We often tend to think about waiting for something better or waiting for things to improve,' explains Anna.

'My work features these words to explore the experience of hope and patience. The process of using a single needle to hand pierce individual holes into the paper emphases the intensity of the emotion whilst the repetitive use of the words highlights the passing of time.

'It took six weeks to create and I had to keep taking breaks. Listening to the radio and making sure I was relaxed enough when I began to undertake the perforating process to ensure I kept the quality high.'
