Nicholas Saunders

Visual arts

Nicholas Saunders is a freelance illustrator and print maker whose work is influenced by old American screen-printed rock and folk posters and is part of a reaction to the increasingly digital world.

Nicholas studied Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent University, concentrating on Illustration and Printmaking in his third year. Since graduating, Nicholas has worked for several clients including Howies, I Dress Myself, Wired, Creative Concern, Umbro and for Warner Brothers on set of the new Harry Potter films. He has been named as one of the top ten illustrators in the UK.

He is currently based in Manchester where he prints at Hot Bed Press, a hive for print making in the North West. In between commercial briefs he produces his own limited edition prints and ephemera including screen-printed hand made books.

At the Biennale, Nicholas is exhibiting a series of prints that he has produced over the past year.

He says: “I was incredibly surprised to be picked to exhibit at the Biennale as I don’t have a fine art background, but am very honored to be flying the flag for illustration and print making for the UK at this event.  From this experience I hope to make connections and friends who I could work with on future projects and want to broaden my knowledge of other disciplines within the art field.”
