Sam Taylor
Visual Arts Artist

Sam Taylor is a visual artist who creates sculptures. For the Biennale, Sam explores the term 'Kairos,' meaning the right or opportune moment, as a point in time where change is possible.

In a society loaded with branding and mass production of products, his work focuses on the moment when it is possible for an object to be abstract but still resemble familiar items.

His sculptures depict an everyday object at three-times its normal size, though still recognisable through its form and shape.

'To withdraw the familiarity that we have with these objects, I have removed all adverts, logos and embellishments,' explains Sam.

He uses traditional, labour-intensive draughtsman and model making techniques that are fast becoming obsolete as new technologies withdraw the need for human creation.

'When these objects are placed in a gallery, they mock the current art market; by becoming part of it they transform the gallery into a shop filled with overlooked items of everyday use,' says Sam.
