Artist Work

Step of Faith is a solo dance performance which has been evolving since early 2008 through a process of improvisation, collapsing together and deconstructing a range of set dance phrases to further develop the material in performance.

Ozlem has been inspired by the following text:

“[And] I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’ And he replied: ‘Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be better than a light and safer than a known way.” - Minnie Louise Haskins [American academic in the fields of sociology and philosophy, based at London School of Economics. b1875. d1957]

Ozlem says: “Being selected for the Biennale was one of my biggest highlights at university, I felt very honoured and fortunate to be selected to perform in an international context. I feel that connecting with other artists’ work from a range of backgrounds will inevitably aid my own working methods.”
