Adam Weikert

Adam Weikert is a musician and composer who enjoys experimenting with sound.

'Hybrid was the ultimate test of my ability to fuse the two. I was working to please an audience of people who perhaps aren't attuned to the aspects I enjoy in music, whilst trying to wheedle in little nuances of myself,' explains Adam.

'People go to dance performances to watch dance; I feel the music shouldn't override that. I tried to make the music palatable by working in sounds people would recognise. The most obvious one is the sound of a music box. It's a very pleasing and emphatic sound, and one that most people readily associate with dance orientated themes such as toy ballerinas.

'I mixed this in with some improvisation and manipulated samples of the dancers, and based the structure of the music around the segments of dance the choreographer had written - hence the name Hybrid.'
