The Weed Act is a new performance and video work, created in response to a 'spear weed' which has grown in the artist’s back yard since moving into his home on the 1st June 2009. The Weed has being left to grow to its current state and currently sits at 3ft in diameter. This weed is one of seven weeds deemed invasive under the government guidelines, outlined in the Weed Act 1959.
The work consists of reading The Weed Act to the weed, and proceeding to dig up the plant, consequently ending the project whilst satisfying The Weed Act law. The resulting video, and the various components of the project i.e. lectern, dried weed, photos and dirt will form a future installation sharing the projects year long duration.
